With team members hailing from across the globe, icon.pr is delighted to be working with A Taste of Harmony, a free national event that celebrates cultural diversity in workplaces. An initiative of the Scanlon Foundation, the campaign is now running in its eighth year.

For 2016 the event will run 21–27 March with the theme ‘Every Taste Tells a Story’. The concept is simple—employees bring a dish of food that represents their cultural heritage in to their workplace to share with colleagues.

Celebrity chef Guy Grossi, author and Food Safari presenter Maeve O’Meara, media personality and cookbook author Jane Kennedy and Commonwealth Bank of Australia's General Manager Local Business Banking Huss Mustafa are Hero Ambassadors for this year's campaign. They share their passion for celebrating the joys of living in a multicultural country and their own stories that communicate the value of diversity.

Australia is one of the most culturally diverse countries in the world and cultural diversity is one of the country’s great strengths. Understanding and celebrating Australia is all about recognising our diverse cultural makeup. Diversity in the workplace can have significant benefits for business, including increased productivity, better problem solving, greater innovation and insights into new markets overseas. Sharing cultural influences helps diversity to be recognised and valued, creating a more inclusive and cohesive workforce.

Sharing a meal is a wonderful way to bring people together. It opens a door to conversations about food, families, traditions and travel and as part of A Taste of Harmony it can help expand people’s perceptions of what it means to be an Australian. Last year more than 5,400 workplace teams held A Taste of Harmony events and over 370,000 teammates shared meals and stories with each other across Australia during the week-long campaign.

We would be thrilled to see any number of our past and present clients getting on board and participating in this fun (and free!) event. Icon is looking forward to hosting our A Taste of Harmony events, with a friendly rivalry struck up between the creative, digital and PR teams and a group outing awarded to the best event hosts.

Register your workplace online to access the campaign hub, discover delicious recipes from around the world and explore creative and inspiring ideas for your own event. Your event can be as elaborate or informal—or as unique—as you like.
