With the temperatures dropping and snow starting to fall on Victorian peaks, Lake Mountain and Mount Baw Baw with the assistance of Icon got into the winter spirit, transforming Westfield Knox, in Melbourne’s east into a winter wonderland on Saturday 4 June.
To celebrate start of the winter season, the resorts activated the shopping centre a week prior with three tonnes of real snow plus a pack of snow loving huskies from the resort’s own sled dog tours, 'Howling Huskies.' The event, which was conceived and coordinated by Icon, was a resounding success despite the dreary June weather, with children and parents alike eager to throw their first snowball, hug a husky and snap an exclusive, branded photo to take home as a memento.
The event attracted coverage on Nine News Melbourne that evening, with the local newspapers also covering the event.
In addition to this event, the official opening weekend launch at Lake Mountain and Mt Baw Baw was also a success, with visitors fortunate to experience snow on both mountains.
Lake Mountain opened its new Burton Riglet Park, designed to introduce 3-6 year olds to snowboarding in a safe and a controlled environment.
Mount Baw Baw marked the official start of the winter season with a family friendly festival in the village square on Saturday evening which included a fireworks display, live music, a BBQ, family friendly competitions and a countdown to the official season opening. The sled dog huskies were also on hand for a cuddle and the fresh dusting of snow made for plenty of snow play opportunities.
